What kind of stock cabinets would work on either side of our fireplace?

We have about 74 inches on both side of fireplace and we'd like cabinets and put shelves over the top. We like stock cabinets but don't want the base ones that have drawers. Is our other option the wall cabinets and do we make a base to put them on. How can we make stock cabinets look like family room built ins without spending a forture???? You can buy pre made shelves and line them up against the wall until you have covered the area that you need add a bit of trim and you are done!
